MODULES
Business Functions
The module aims to provide a foundation of knowledge about the various aspects of business organisations in the public, private and not for profit sectors. Outline module content includes a definition of business, types of business and ownership, starting a business, sources of finance for a business and ethics and corporate social responsibility.
Introduction to Accounting
The module is designed to introduce students to the basic mechanics and processes of accounting in both theory and practice to prepare IPC students for first degree level studies in Accounting and Finance. The approach will be technically oriented and will prioritise International Accounting Standard practice and bring in, where appropriate, UK practice.
Business Economics in Context
The module analyses key international issues using fundamental principles and terminology drawn from the discipline of Economics. At all times the module content is applied to the operation of businesses around the world against the background of the module’s key themes. The impact on business of issues such as population growth, wealth and poverty, energy and the environment and technological change feature.
Understanding Management
The module provides an introduction to the field of management within organisations and gives students an appreciation of the roles and functions of managers within modern business enterprises. The module content reflects the globalisation and considers the international nature of management. Nature and early theories of management, organisations and their structures and people management feature.
Government and Society
The module provides foundation of knowledge on the political and social structures of the UK and includes the impact of the EU. There will be a historical element highlighting how Britain has changed and developed since 1945. Central and local government, elections and voting, class, ethnicity and gender and the media feature.
Introduction to Legal Principles and Systems
The module has a clear focus on the law as it relates to businesses and provides a functional knowledge relating to basic rights and liabilities in law that may affect a modern business. This involves understanding the different types of business entity, such as a partnership or a limited company, and their differences in law. Issues such as formation and nature of contracts. negligence and liability, and the small claims track feature.
Leicester is at the heart of England with excellent transport links. It is just off the M1 and close to the main A1, with easy access to the north and south. The M69 and M6 are also close by and offer access to Birmingham, Wales and the south west. Leicester is just over an hour away from London St Pancras, and the Eurostar hub, meaning Paris is only four hours away by train. East Midlands Airport is 30 minutes away with regular flights to destinations across Europe.
