This course is structured around 3 studio areas: painting; fine art media; sculpture; cross-area seminars ensure that the 3 areas have a forum for the exchange of ideas; the programme is studio-based and students are given the freedom to develop their own work with tutorial and technical assistance as needed; students also benefits from a programme of visiting tutors, gallery visits and other events that aim to develop exciting and challenging debate; an integral part of the degree is the history and theory of art courses during the 1st 3 years; courses look at both historical and contemporary art and provide an important grounding in histories and theories of art together with an awareness of the relevance of these critical studies to the contemporary practising artist; in the 2nd or 3rd year the student also has the opportunity to select an additional course from another department, either related to their work or as an separate interest; all undergraduates are eligible for selection for international exchanges, which normally take place in the 3rd year, and may be to art schools in the United States, Europe, Israel and Australia.
