Foundation modules may include: key skills and language for higher education; mathematics for teachers and foundations of statistics; introduction to chemistry; core foundation biology 1; reflective skills for teachers; English foundations; introduction to physics; foundations of psychology; further English; environmental science 2; there are 2 major components to the next three years of the degree: academic and professional; the student studies 6 academic modules and 1 professional module each year; academic modules consist of core English, mathematics, science and education studies; the student also studies an option module in either the arts, humanities, modern foreign languages or information and communications technology; the professional components focus on the professional standards required for the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS); this includes at least 32 weeks school experience in a variety of schools and following a programme which addresses whole school issues affecting the learning environment of the child.
