This course enables the student to study education alongside modules from one of the partner departments; this allows development within, and comparison and contrast with, areas of the the two subjects (traditional and new and developing areas); this provides the student with an understanding of the processes of learning and diversity of learners, including some key paradigms and their impact on educational practices (and including their own learning), and an understanding of the nature of knowledge in Psychology as a subject and its curricular implications; the student also acquires detailed knowledge relating to the core areas of biological, cognitive, developmental and social psychology and individual differences, in addition to coverage of abnormal and clinical psychology and some knowledge of historical issues; the programme has a strong focus on research methods, with the student acquiring in-depth knowledge of, and practical facility in, research and statistical methodologies.
