Student life

Library, Cafeterias and Restaurants, Co-op Shop, Bookstore, Computer Labs, Komaba Museum, Training Gym, Athletic Fields (rugby, baseball, etc.), Tennis Courts, etc. are available on campus.


There are over 450 student organizations that are run by students on campus and these range from team and individual sports to voluntary work. Everyone is encouraged to actively take part in these activities which will make their campus lives more vibrant.


Today Global Interaction Friends (TGIF) is a student-run organization that helps PEAK and other international students navigate their new life in Tokyo, and access the information and resources they need to adjust to the Japanese culture. TGIF organizes a campus tour and shopping trip upon arrival of new students, and also coordinates various events and parties throughout the year.


The University of Tokyo features numerous top-class facilities. Cultural facilities include the library system, museums and botanical gardens. The University also offers swimming pools, gyms, sports fields and more at its athletic facilities. In addition, two major hospitals are located on the University’s grounds. Ito International Research Center, a conference hall available for public use, is also situated on the Hongo Campus. The University of Tokyo Library System consists of the General Library on the Hongo Campus, the Komaba Library on the Komaba Campus, the Kashiwa Library on the Kashiwa Campus, and 32 departmental libraries at the University’s Graduate Schools, Faculties, and Institutes. The entire collection includes more than 9 million books, subscriptions to nearly 30,000 journals, and various digital resources, such as databases, e-journals, and e-books.

The Housing Office was established as part of a project to create an environment for education, research and living suitable for a global campus as advocated in "FOREST 2015" – the action scenario of the University of Tokyo. Location

The University of Tokyo (Hongo Campus) is located at Bunkyo-ku in Tokyo. The stations near the university are Ueno and Okachimachi on the JR Yamanote line, Ochanomizu on the JR Chuo line, and Keisei-Ueno on the Keisei line. When you come from these stations, it is convenient to take a taxi. The nearest subway stations are Hongo-san-chome on the Marunouchi line and the Oedo line, Nezu and Yushima on the Chiyoda line, and Todai-mae on the Nanboku line. You can walk to the university from these subway stations.
