Entry requirements

A degree validated by a higher education institution in the United Kingdom or a degree of an equivalent standard from an institution outside the United Kingdom; degree should contain 80 SCOTCAT credit points relevant to the teaching qualification or qualifications being studied; forty of the credit points must have been studied at SCQF level 8 or above; must also have a national qualifications course award in English at Scottish credit and qualifications framework at level 6, or an equivalent; in addition applicants must have a degree which included studying music over at least three years; the following should be included; the study of harmony; counterpoint; arrangement; orchestration and composition with a broad study of music in social and historical contexts covering stylistic; structural and instrumental developments in traditional; ethnic and non-western musical cultures; keyboard studies including sight-reading music; playing by ear; accompanying; harmonising and improvising in a variety of traditional and contemporary styles; and the study of an instrument or voice to an advanced standard; if applicants specialise in voice they will have to show some experience of an instrument other than a keyboard instrument; If applicants specialist study is an instrument they will have to show that they have some experience of solo singing or taking part in choral work.
