Modules include: Year 1: Core studies: foundations of health and disease; infection and defence; circulation and respiration; fluids, nutrition and metabolism; cancer biology; 2 special study modules; 1 or 2 half days on clinical sites. Year 2: Musculoskeletal system and movement; neuroscience and behaviour; endocrine regulation; reproduction and development; 2 special study modules; 1 or 2 half days on clinical sites. Year 3: 2 20-week core modules involving clinical training with medical and surgical teams in 1 of the 5 teaching hospitals; 3 special study modules (over Years 3 and 4). Year 4: 4 10-week core modules. Students are involved in clinical training with specialist teams in areas including obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics and psychiatry; and in general practice and health in the community. Year 5: Further intensive clinical experience including district general hospital experience; elective period (often abroad); 2 special study modules involving attachments.
