At UVA, you’ll find a wealth of opportunities to create your own unique experiences, find your niche and follow your passions. From arts and athletic events to nearly 1000 clubs and organizations, the only option you won’t have is boredom.
The University maintains a combined 17 courts, fields and recreation centers, and every day you’ll find people engaged in athletic activity—from pick-up volleyball to weekend hiking expeditions on the Appalachian Trail, which passes only a few miles from the University.
As a UVA student you’ll be able to participate in creative pursuits at every level—from collaborating in writing groups to performing in musical and dance ensembles to participating in exhibitions and performances. You’ll also receive free or discounted tickets to many arts events and student performances, including those of our many a cappella singing groups, which are part of the fabric of life on Grounds.
The University of Virginia requires all Incoming First Year Undergraduate students to live on-Grounds. First Year Students may be placed in one of the following areas: Alderman Road Hall-Style Residences, Alderman Road Suite-Style Residences, Gooch/Dillard Suite-Style Residences, McCormick Road Hall-Style Residences.
The University offers a number of different residence styles and locations for upperclass students. Apartments, traditional hallway-style bedrooms, residential colleges, and language houses provide a wide variety of experiences for student living. Students in their final undergraduate year may also apply to live on the historic Lawn at the heart of Jefferson's original university.
At nearly 2,000 acres, the University of Virginia’s Grounds cover a large part of the City of Charlottesville. The Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport (CHO) is located approximately eight miles from the University. The Charlottesville Amtrak Station is located at 810 West Main Street, approximately two miles from the University.
