University of Vermont

Student life

The University of Vermont is nestled between the Adirondack and Green Mountains.

The university campus offers a variety of services for students. In addition to traditional classrooms on campus the University of Vermont has the Rubenstein Ecosystem Science Laboratory, a waterfront campus with a floating classroom on Lake Champlain. Students can study lake ecology aboard the Melosira, a research vessel. The university also owns four farms where students can research agricultural topics.

Student clubs and organizations, totaling more than 100, span student interests and receive sponsorship from the Student Government Association. Clubs with longstanding history and the largest memberships include: Volunteers in Action, the UVM Outing Club, Ski & Snowboard Club.

The University of Vermont Greek Community is one of the oldest in the nation with the first fraternal organization starting in 1836. The 5 pillar values of the University of Vermont Greek community are citizenship, leadership, lifelong learning, friendship and social justice.

Students who want to take advantage of the surrounding nature in Burlington can rent skis, snowshoes, canoes and camping equipment on campus. Students do not have to go far for an adventure, though; UVM has an adventure ropes course and an indoor rock climbing wall.

For a more urban experience, Montreal and Boston are about 100 and 220 miles away, respectively.

Accommodation

UVM houses about 5,500 undergraduate students on four residential campuses and at two nearby locations, the Sheraton and Quarry Hill. In its halls most students live in doubles; some live in triples or singles. Students are offered co-ed and single-sex floors, suites, semi-suites and columns, along with Residential Learning Communities and special interest communities.

Freshmen and sophomores must live on campus.

Career services

The UVM Career Center actively supports all persons on their individual paths to finding meaningful, rewarding and safe work. To that end, they are committed to constant learning, comprehensive service, active advocacy, supportive counseling and affirmative hiring.

They help students to choose their major to be and access how it will affect their career, answer questions about internships or seeking summer or part–time work, prepare for a job search, offer resources for graduate students and organize career events.
