The university offers excellent facilities for teaching, accommodation and leisure on campus and is continually improving current spaces and investing in new buildings. In 2012 the university began a three-year campus improvement project to provide new teaching space, student accommodation and a new Centre for the Arts.
University of Bath campus is one of the safest campus sites in the UK, and it is the first university in the country to win a national police approved security award. The campus has excellent places to eat, drink and socialise. Facilities include two food shops, a bookshop, post office, the Students' Union shop, two banks and a travel agent.
The Students' Union (Bath SU) forms an important part of student experience. A new £5.5m student centre opened in October 2010 and provides a fantastic student space. There are over 100 clubs and societies to get involved in, from cultural and politics societies to arts and sports clubs. The union bar and nightclub arranges a variety of events and is a lively place to meet friends.
The University Library is the first 24 hour Library and Learning Centre in the UK - meaning that students can always get access reference and computing facilities available and work in a way which suits. The library holds over 500,000 books and periodicals and invests heavily in electronic journals and databases. Research published by members of the University is stored in an electronic repository so it is instantly available to all.
There are over 1000 computers across the library and four general access computing labs. In addition, many departments have their own computing labs and there are terminals in the foyers of most buildings - whether you want to check email or write your thesis, computing access is always available. Alternatively, students can connect to the wireless network anywhere in the main areas of campus or the coffee shops.
The Institute of Contemporary Interdisciplinary Arts (ICIA) organises an extensive programme of live performances, exhibitions, concerts and classes on campus for University staff, students and the wider community. As well as cheaper tickets for performances by visiting professional artists, students receive large discounts on the regular cost of a wide range of classes and workshops including photography, street dance, DJ skills and samba drumming.
For postgraduate students 600 accommodation places are offered. All university owned postgraduate accommodation is based around the city centre. Each university owned facility has secure card-only access, and generally has smaller numbers of bedrooms to each kitchen than on campus.
The university also offers accommodation in Bath in privately owned properties managed by the University. This accommodation offers the experience of living in a private property in the city without the need to deal with landlords and utility companies. These properties are ideal for overseas postgraduate students, they have a smaller number of bedrooms with social living space and most have gardens and regular bus services link to the University.
The following Careers Programmes are available to students:
Careers Advisory Service has well-established direct links with many graduate employers, and arranges over 300 employer recruitment visits to the University each year. There is a big programme of employer presentations in the autumn, and Careers Fairs in the autumn and summer, so students have easy access to employers.
