All students can join and use the SOAS Students' Union, which offers a range of societies and social activities. SOAS students can also join societies and teams offered by the University of London Union (ULU). SOAS has approximately fifty clubs and societies, covering sport, dining, political debate, cultural issues and everything in between. The Union puts on plenty of events, both inside and outside of SOAS. In addition to all of this the Union runs the bar in SOAS, a popular meeting place for students. There are also two common rooms (at both campuses) and run the Snack Bar at Russell Square.
The University also has its own radio station - SOAS Radio, which is an outlet for creative media and talent. Run by alumni, current students and staff at the School, including volunteers from like-minded communities, SOAS Radio is dedicated to varied and original programming on world music, culture and current affairs.
SOAS students have exclusive access to three student residences, two located on Pentonville Road, adjacent to the Vernon Square campus and one in Stoke Newington. All new undergraduates from outside London are advised to apply for a place in a student residence. The university has around 1000 bed spaces available each year and while the university tries to offer accommodation to as many new students as possible, housing is not guaranteed.
SOAS students are also entitled to apply for a place in one of the seven intercollegiate residences owned by the university. Students can apply for up to two years accommodation in SOAS’s halls of residence and/or the Intercollegiate halls. University of London Housing Services provide information, advice and support on finding private rented accommodation in London.
SOAS Careers Service provides a range of services to assist students in developing their career or continuing their studies and also supports them throughout the job hunting process, while helping students develop valuable employability skills along the way. The Careers Services provides careers advice, information resources and organises events. There are also dedicated Careers Consultants for early career researches.
