Iowa State University

Student life

Located on a 8.1 km2 Iowa State University campus contains over 160 buildings, several of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Iowa State University's campus, specifically its Central Campus, has been recognized as one of the nation's most beautiful theirs and was listed as a "medallion site" by the American Society of Landscape Architects in 1999.

Ames is a small town, so there is not a plenty of things to do but since it's located in a small town there is plenty to do on campus. Students have a bowling alley, movie theater on campus that shows movies for free and they are updated. If they like football or basketball there's always that as well. They have many opportunities for free fun at the Memorial Union – the main students’ social organization on-campus.

ISU has over 800 student organizations and sports are a big part of campus life that represent a variety of interests. Organizations are supported by Iowa State's Student Activities Center. Besides, there are nearly 50 fraternities and sororities at Iowa State and most chapters have their own houses.

Accommodation

Iowa State operates 19 on-campus residence halls. The residence halls are divided into geographical areas.

The Iowa State Department of Residence has a variety of neighborhoods ranging from suite-style residence halls to family-student apartments available to fit your needs and lifestyle.

The majority of incoming freshman students live in the Richardson Court and Union Drive neighborhoods. The majority of the rooms are standard double rooms. However, there are a limited number of single and triple rooms available throughout the neighborhoods. Eaton and Martin Halls are suite-style buildings meaning two rooms (four people) share a bathroom. Two additional residence halls and two apartment neighborhoods for our upper-division students (students 19 and older) provide the same benefits and conveniences of traditional residence hall living with more independence and privacy.

Career services

Iowa State University career center provides a wade variety of services and opportunities for its students. These include career fairs, academic advising, orientation, career exploration classes, field trips, professional contacts, computer-aided career exploration programs, and career counseling.
