Hofstra has a vibrant campus with hundreds of social, academic and cultural events per year.
The main campus has approximately 113 buildings on 97 hectares. The part of the campus located south of Hempstead Turnpike (NY Route 24) and west of California Avenue is located in the Village of Hempstead. The part of the campus north of Hempstead Turnpike and east of California Avenue is located in Uniondale and East Garden City.
Hofstra offers a wide variety of on-campus facilities for students: sport and wellness, recreation facilities, student clubs, fraternities and sororities, research centers and libraries.
The Arboretum and Bird Sanctuary at Hofstra University has collection of diverse trees and reflecting to its Dutch origin displays an array of rare and colorful tulips in the spring.
With its location on the Long Island, New York, Hofstra University puts students in an ideal location to enjoy attractions and secure internships in New York City. In addition to two traditional semesters, the university offers courses during a January term and several summer sessions.
There are more than 200 student organizations including about 20 fraternities and sororities on campus.
Besides, New York, which is one of the most vibrant cities in the world, is just a train ride away. There is plenty to explore in New York City during student’s years here at Hofstra so there are so much advantages of these activities students can do for free in NYC.
There are plenty of opportunities: relax and spend the day in Central Park, go to Times Square, to one of the most beautiful places in the city - Grand Central Terminal, explore the New York Public Library Main Branch, Rockefeller Center that is home to the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree and ice-skating rink in the winter, the High Line on Manhattan’s West Side, the Brooklyn Bridge and dozens of other cool activities.
35 residence halls housing about 3,500 students. Campus residence options include traditional dormitories, coed housing, apartments for single students, special housing for disabled students, wellness housing (alcohol/drug/smoke-free) and themed living communities, which group students by a common interest such as active living and performing arts.
The Hofstra career center aims to help students explore, prepare, connect and share. The organization does this by providing services that empower students to develop and pursue career-related goals and complete meaningful practical experiences.
Students are invited to connect with the career center early in their time at hofstra and use some of their services: major exploration, career counseling, internships, handshake/job and internship postings, job search resources and handouts, events and many others.
