With a population of just over 200,000, Groningen is small enough to give you a homely small-town feel, yet has a large enough student community to make sure there’s never a dull moment. On days off, students can hop on bike for some fresh air and explore the city’s charming canals and parks. Because Groningen is the urban centre of the north of the Netherlands and has such a large student population, its cultural scene is big and diverse. Underground pop club Vera has a great reputation among alternative music lovers all over the world. Bands like Nirvana, U2, White Stripes and Sonic Youth performed here in the early days of their career.
Besides, center of cultural activities for students organizes a large variety of cultural activities for and by students of Hanze (UAS), ranging from music, dance, film, photography, video, stand-up comedy, theatre, design, painting, sculpture, etc.CAST organizes concerts, exhibitions, and shows, which are open to all students, but also courses, workshops and other cultural projects, in which students can participate.
Hanze provides the international students with adequate and fully furnished student housing. The student houses are located all over Groningen. The university has several international student houses with furnished rooms, most of them with shared facilities. In each student house, there will be a residence assistant. A student can rent a room in an international student house for the maximum period of 12 months. After this period, student has to find a room yourself.
Part of student’s bachelor programme is a placement allowing them to gain work experience and to prepare themselves for the labor market. As a result, Hanze students’ employability rate is very high - 99%.
Hanze graduates have completed work placements at companies such as SEAT, Skoda, Porsche, Adidas, Continental, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Goodyear, L’Oréal Paris, LG electronics, TomTom, RWE, Henkel, BASF, Siemens, Hugo Boss, Volkswagen, Audi and Daimler.
