Students have the opportunity to study alongside students from other professional backgrounds, experts by experience, qualified social workers and those with significant or current experience of social care services for adults or children and young people through voluntary or paid work, or life experience; the award enables students to reflect critically upon their own practice or experience in relation to published generic and specialist standards; current legislation surrounding equality is examined, together with the contested nature of the concept of social justice in relation to social work; the adult pathway allows students to explore the effectiveness of practices which are intended to manage risk, safeguard adults and promote choice, independence and well being; plus gain a critical understanding of the wants, needs and experiences of people who are service users of adult social care services.
