The Northern Film School at Leeds Metropolitan, which provudes this course, is based at Electric Press in the city centre where you will have access to an impressive range of facilities. These include both 16mm and digital production equipment; two production studios, professional level edit suites, production offices, screening facilities, a props store and film and script archive.
You will be taught by practising filmmakers with a lot of independent film production experience between them. As a consequence of relationships between staff and the industry the standard of visiting practising filmmakers is very high. The Northern Film School is also a member of CILECT, an organisation of only the best film schools worldwide.
MA Filmmaking course is about practical filmmaking, collaboration, creativity, project development and the business of film. The university's staff understand the filmmaker as the auteur and place this creative role at the heart of the filmmaking process. On the course there is a lot of filmmaking and some theory too - Leeds Metropolitan University encourages students to think, research, discuss and watch a lot films. The University also gives financing to your filmed Masters Project.
Leeds Metropolitan University is well connected. Public transport, cycling and walking facilities are provided. The University city campus buildings are all within easy walking distance of Leeds City Rail station. Headingley Campus has its own bus stop on campus and is 3 miles out of the city centre on a well-served bus corridor. Headingley Stadium is just a 10 minute walk from Burley Park train station, one stop from Leeds.
