Topics include: Foundations in nursing; caring skills; anatomy and physiology; the individual, family and society; dimensions of learning disability; counselling skills; working with people with complex needs; foundations of community care; using evidence in learning disability; managing self and others. An elective module is agreed between the student and programme leader and can be taken in the UK or overseas; typical experience can be gained in healthcare facilities, social care facilities and working with the voluntary sector.
