Theory modules include: Introduction to midwifery studies; learning for professional life; fitness for childbearing; life sciences related to reproduction; childbearing in today's society; labour and birth 1 and 2; women's health; complications in childbearing; postnatal issues; professional practice and issues and research; the sick neonate and sick adult; the reflective practitioner; and management. Students have the option of graduating at the end of the programme with either a Bachelor of Midwifery degree or a DipHE, both options leading to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC); the BM requires students to study additional modules at level 3; on graduation there is a planned option to extend to an Honours degree.
