Year 1: Common to both pathways; students experience skills essential to all areas such as materials skills, colour and trend prediction; this knowledge is then applied to the chosen pathway from the end of year 1. Years 2 and 4: Provide a broad understanding of the textile industry from the materials used in production through to the creation of finished clothing and textile products; students gain an appreciation of the whole product development process from the initial idea to its appearance in store; the course also covers textile buying, the marketing of textile products, retail management and the sourcing and supply of clothing and textiles. Year 3: Work placement in areas of buying, merchandising, marketing and retail management, often working for a major high street fashion retailer.
