Year 1: Introduces students to a range of concepts and applications related to the practice of drawing; students are encouraged to understand how and why they draw as well as giving them the opportunity to explore the way in which drawing may be developed through a range of different media; processes and ideas; students are also introduced to aspects of applied arts practices in printmaking; ceramics; enamelling or embroidery. Year 2:Students develop creative practice through engagement with a range of different ideas, applications and contexts; option modules in the second semester allow them to make choices about possible areas of study so that they are able to determine their own particular range of specialist interests; skills and ambitions within the remit of drawing and applied arts; students are encouraged to learn new skills and consider the interdisciplinary potential of their practice; professional practice components are introduced at this level, and students are encouraged to undertake work placements and become involved in live projects; throughout the year students are encouraged to adopt an increasingly professional and individual approach to the presentation and organisation of their work; there is also a work experience module and the chance to take part in an exchange with European students through the Socrates-Erasmus programme. Year 3: The final year consists of a self-directed programme of study that should reflect students own particular skills; abilities and ambitions; this is supported by and negotiated with the staff team; it should give students the opportunity to identify specific ideas; contexts and approaches to their work; students are expected to combine their creative practice with a high level of critical reflection and research culminating in the presentation of a substantial body of work and a written dissertation.
