Student life
There's so much more to university than lectures and seminars. At Kent you can join a student society, take up a new sport, immerse yourself in the music scene or undertake volunteering to boost your career prospects.
Sport and fitness: We are committed to a ‘sport for all’ philosophy and encourage you to be more active, get fit and have fun whilst at Kent. Whether you’re a recreational user or a serious athlete, our dedicated sports development team and fully-qualified health and fitness instructors are on hand to help. Generous sports scholarships are also available.
Arts and culture: Enjoy the very latest in film, theatre, art, music, history and dance at our on-campus cinema and Gulbenkian arts centre. You can also get involved in student-created productions and events.
Musical community: Music is a big part of the Kent experience. Students of all subjects can get involved in a wide range of extra-curricular music activities and there are even opportunities to perform in the spectacular surroundings of Canterbury Cathedral. Music Performance Scholarships are available to talented instrumentalists and singers.
Clubs and societies: Share your interests and make lifelong
friends from around the world. A wide range of sporting, performance, cultural,
faith and special interest groups are available and you could even establish
your own society. There are also opportunities for volunteering and fundraising
and to work for Kent Union’s TV and radio stations.
Have fun on a global scale: With our truly international community – over 159 nationalities are represented by our students – you’ll have the chance to celebrate festivals such as Holi, Thanksgiving and Chinese New Year with students from across the world.
New first-year students who select Kent as their first choice are guaranteed a place in University accommodation. At the Canterbury campus, most rooms are en suite and many offer catering options, while all postgraduate rooms are en suite and self-catered. Rooms are available in flats, shared houses and traditional college arrangements.
At Medway, rooms are available at Pier Quays, a short walk from the campus; they are all en suite and arranged in flats of five to eight people. Pier Quays is managed by Unite Students, separate from the University, and shared with students from Canterbury Christ Church and Greenwich universities.
At both Canterbury and Medway, student union advice centres provide help
and guidance for students who choose to live off campus.
