Overview

Texas A&M at College Station, founded in 1876, is a public, comprehensive university. It is one of the few institutions holding triple federal designations as a land-, sea- and space-grant university. It offers extraordinary, high-quality academic programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels in over 100 fields. Its students have unique opportunities to develop leadership skills through its optional Corps of Cadets and 700 other organizations. Texas A&M is the nation's only university to rank among the top ten in four key categories: student body size (4th), enrollment of National Merit Scholars (8th), research expenditures (9th) and endowment (10th). Programs are offered through the Colleges of Agriculture, Architecture, Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Geosciences, Liberal Arts, Medicine, Science and Veterinary Medicine. Its 5,200-acre campus is located in College Station, 90 miles northwest of Houston. 


In the 2014 edition of the U.S. News and World Report ranking of national universities, the school is 68th. In the U.S. News and World Report ranking, Texas A&M tied with Worcester Polytechnic Institute.


With over 280,000 alumni, A&M has one of the largest and most active alumni groups in America. Many Aggies have attained local, national, and international prominence.

Location

Texas A&M's College Station campus, one of the largest in America, spans 21 km2 plus 1 km2 for Research Park. The university is part of the Bryan-College Station metropolitan area located within Brazos County in the Brazos Valley (Southeast Central Texas) region, an area often referred to as "Aggieland".


The campus is roughly 30 minutes away from the Brazos River. Which is one of the best places in Texas to float the river and enjoy the outdoors.
