There are no exclusionary social clubs at Rice. All students are welcome and encouraged to participate in more than 200 student organizations, including performance, media, athletic, academic, religious, cultural and political groups. With this full range of extracurricular options, students can pursue existing passions or expand their horizons by trying something new.
The Shepherd School of Music presents numerous concerts each year, and the student-run Rice Players produce first-rate theatrical productions. The Rice Art Gallery, the nation's only university gallery dedicated to installation art, features free, eclectic exhibits year round.
Barbara and David Gibbs Recreation Center is designed to encourage a lifetime of health and wellness for the students, faculty and staff of Rice University by promoting the physical, social and emotional benefits of physical activity.
Nearly 78 percent of Rice’s undergraduate population lives on campus. Housing on campus is divided into 11 residential colleges, which form an integral part of student life at the university. In founding order the 11 colleges are: Baker College, Will Rice College, Hanszen College, Wiess College, Jones College, Brown College, Lovett College, Sid Richardson College, Martel College, McMurtry College and Duncan College.

Houston has two airports: William P. Hobby (HOU), 11 miles to the south of campus and George Bush Intercontinental (IAH), 24 miles to the north. Intercontinental is a hub of global travel. Hobby is a hub for regional, domestic travel. Together they offer 1,000 flights a day in and out of Houston.
Most major rental car companies have locations at both airports. SuperShuttle and taxis provide ground transportation services from both airports.
The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, (METRO) provides bus and rail service from destinations around Houston. There is a METRORail stop across the street from the main entrance of the Rice campus. The rail line travels up and down Main Street, serving downtown, the Texas Medical Center and Reliant Park.
