It offers a wide selection of engaging co-ops, internships and job vacancies in its database. Specific guidance is given to international students on American-style interviews, alumni networking, resumes and cultural differences. In addition, the US Government runs an Optional Practical Training scheme for international students that gives you even more opportunities to find a job in the USA after graduation.
Career Development also hosts one of the largest career fairs in the region, held twice a year (October and February) enabling students to connect with over 500 employers. 92% of students are employed or attending graduate school within 9 months of graduating.
Cooperative education
At Northeastern University, students gain substantial work experience before receiving their diplomas. Cooperative education, or co-ops, are opportunities for students to combine real-world work experience with their classroom learning. About 90 percent of Northeastern undergraduates complete at least one professional co-op during their college career, working for one of more than 2,000 employers around the world, such as GEICO and MTV. Students can choose to complete their degree in four years, with the potential for two co-ops, or five years, building in time for three co-ops.
On-campus opportunities
International students can also take paid employment on campus (up to 20 hours per week, but only after starting a full-time degree program), as well as getting involved in various student-led organizations and events.
Professional practice
Northeastern graduates enter the workforce with up to 18 months of professional experience gained during their degree, giving you a competitive advantage over other candidates. The University hosts one of the region’s largest annual career fairs and has relationships with over 3,000 employers who often recruit students for co-ops, internships and graduate jobs.
