Overview
- Glyndwr University formed in July 2008 when the North East Wales Institute of Higher Education (NEWI) gained university status.
- The university traces its roots to 1887 when the Wrexham School of Science and Arts was formed from miners' Whisky Money, a tax on beer and spirits.
- Higher education followed in 1892 and three colleges formed NEWI in 1975, before Glyndwr University was created.
