Dartmouth College considers its beautiful, historic campus as a great asset, whose quality and functionality contributes directly to the student educational experience. The central campus consists of 237 acres. Dartmouth’s facilities include over 6.5 million gross square feet in 161 buildings, ranging from housing to specialized laboratories, gymnasiums to high tech classrooms, playing fields to libraries. These facilities serve over 5,900 students and 4,000 faculty and staff in a variety of academic, research, administrative, athletic, and residential spaces.
Dartmouth offers 34 intercollegiate varsity sports (16 women's, 16 men's, two co-ed) at the NCAA Division I level, two dozen intramural sports, and approximately three dozen club sports. Three-quarters of Dartmouth undergraduates participate in some form of athletics. Approximately 60 percent of students are members of Greek organizations, which serve as the hubs of social life at Dartmouth. The Outing Club – the oldest and largest collegiate outing club in the country – is the most popular student organization at Dartmouth, offering outdoor activities, expeditions, gear rentals and courses.
