The language of instruction in all courses is English. However, students also learn German and/or French as the knowledge of several languages is an important asset in the hospitality industry. Other language options including Spanish, Italian and Mandarin are available upon demand. Good knowledge of one of the official spoken languages of Switzerland will also help students in finding a suitable industry placement in either the German-, French- or the Italian-speaking parts of the country.
B.H.M.S. mirrors a professional business environment where staff and students observe the rules of good manners and appropriate behavior. All students adhere to the business dress code that is common in the hospitality industry.
Instead of a formal uniform, B.H.M.S. students are expected to wear a business dress which they are allowed to bring from their home country. This should consist of a dark cloth suit, shirt and tie for our male students and for the ladies, dark cloth pants or skirt with a blouse and jacket and dark closed shoes. In winter, it is, of course, possible to add warm clothes according to the rules.
Culinary students are provided with full Chef uniforms to undertake their practical classes (loan).
The B.H.M.S. Student Residences offer accommodation in modern rooms equipped with a bathroom, a kitchenette, wardrobe, study areas and Wi-Fi. Living in one of the B.H.M.S. Student Residences will put you in the heart of student life, so you can make the most out of your study and leisure time.
Students with a food and beverage plan are entitled to three meals a day served in the City Campus Restaurant during the week, and brunch with dinner service during the weekends and holidays. For vegetarians and for those who do not eat pork or beef, special dishes are provided with no extra charge.
B.H.M.S. works with numerous international placement agencies, which specialize in placing graduate students in Europe, Asia, and North America. Higher Diploma in Hotel Management, at least one internship period in a Swiss hotel or restaurant and very good communication and language abilities are essential ingredients for successful placement.
