Entry requirements

Criteria:

  • applicants have a bachelor’s degree in scenography, costume design or directing for perfomance. 
  • holders of another bachelor degree are admissible provided that they have relevant artistic experience in the professional performing arts. 
  • preferably applicants already have a connection with a professional theatre organization for the project they want to develop in the Master.

Please do not wait until the application deadline to contact us about your interest in the Master. We like to get acquainted with your ideas about the artistic project and/or research before your application. We can offer feedback on your application in advance to the deadline.

To register for the selection applicants have to upload their application via the online form. An application contains:

  • a concept proposal for your professional production (your artistic project) and a proposal for the related artistic research
  • a cover letter with motivation
  • a diploma transcript
  • a portfolio including a CV
  • if possible a letter of intent from the organization hosting your performance project for the master.

The application is meant to give an insight in the background, motivation and goals of the candidate and to assess their research and critical abilities. Applicants will receive confirmation of their application upon receipt of their proposals. Candidates may be asked to give more information or to specify certain elements of their research proposals. To this purpose they may be invited for an interview.

The selection committee consists of at least three people: the program director and two teachers of the master program.

To apply for the master starting September 21st and 22nd 2020, there are three selection opportunities:

  • Application due via the website on Sunday 15-03-2020. Interviews are planned on Tuesday 31-03-2020, so please keep this date free in your calendar.
  • Application due via the website on Sunday 14-06-2020. Interviews planned on Thursday 25-06-2020, so please keep this date free in your calendar.
  • Application due via the website on Sunday 23-08-2020. Interviews planned on Friday 04-09-2020, so please keep this date free in your calendar.

Location

Zuyd is based in Heerlen, Sittard, and Maastricht. The university has eleven locations in these cities. Its strategic location in Europe (on the border with Belgium and Germany) offers unique opportunities for students and businesses. Big cities like Aachen, Cologne, Brussels and Antwerp can all be reached within an hour. This facilitates getting an international internship at one of the numerous international businesses or doing an exchange program at one of its partner universities in the region.
