Subjects studied are: Midwifery; health sciences; social sciences; these are introduced, developed and enhanced throughout the programme to provide the knowledge and skill required to become a midwife; theory and practice are strongly correlated in the programme, with 50% consisting of midwifery practice; training is achieved through simulated experience, and contact with women and families in hospital and community settings; as the course progresses there are substantial periods of placement in hospital and the community; placements are selected to reflect contemporary maternity care provision; the theory for this programme is only taught at the Hamilton Campus but clinical experience is available in both Lanarkshire and Dumfries.
