The course has been designed to provide students with the essential knowledge and competencies to care for adults who have experienced a change in their state of health; students care for individuals during the acute stage of their illness, assist people to rehabilitate and adjust to necessary lifestyle changes; this care is delivered in both hospital and community settings; theory and practice are strongly correlated in the programmes; 50% of the programme consists of nursing practice; practice is achieved through simulated experience and placements in hospital and community; students who are taught at Dumfries attend Hamilton for some classes, travelling by bus; practice placement experience continues to be available in Lanarkshire and Dumfries and Galloway.
