The 1st semester covers core material including: The law and legal aspects of forensic science; writing legal reports and statements; crime scene management; investigation of fires, explosions, homicide and sexual offences; DNA profiling; toxicology, drug identification and trace evidence analysis (hairs, fibres, paint, glass); 2nd semester: students specialise in either biological or chemical aspects of forensic science; Master's course: a project, typically 3 months in duration and usually based at a forensic science laboratory; students undertaking the postgraduate diploma and postgraduate certificate complete the 1st 2 sections of the course only.
