During these semesters, students select a group of classes to either obtain a broad knowledge of information technology systems or to specialise in a particular area: Analogue electronics; electronic processing systems; statistics for engineers; sales, purchasing and marketing; signals and systems; photonic systems; digital electronics; digital signal processing; microcontroller applications; engineering economics; managing people; mobile communication systems; VHDL; information transmission and security; fundamentals of e-business; communication networks; fundamentals of engineering management; facilities management. Entrepreneurship: Introduction to business start-up (semester 3 (June – September); all students undertake a dissertation to highlight the practical/research aspect of their chosen specialisation; arrangements can be made for the practical work to be carried out at a participating industrial establishment; the work is carried out full-time under the supervision of a member of staff or, in industry, under the joint supervision of an academic and an industrial supervisor.
