Course spans a broad range of subjects from advanced materials and mechanical engineering through to computer science, electronic and electrical engineering and aerospace control systems; these are pulled together by the study of topics such as flight mechanics, propulsion, avionics and aerostructures; students can also learn to fly through the University's links with the Yorkshire universities air squadron, provided students fulfil the requirements of the RAF selection and medical boards; this course enables students to spend the 3rd year studying aerospace engineering at a leading university in the USA or Canada; at the North American University students study an agreed set of aerospace engineering courses; these are selected to mirror, as far as possible, the knowledge and skills gained during 3rd year of the MEng aerospace engineering in Sheffield; a special feature of the courses is the opportunity to combine core aerospace topics with a specialism; from year 2 onwards students choose to study either aerospace fluids, materials and structures or aerospace systems; in year 4 students gain experience of flight instrumentation and apply skills to a major individual project in an area of specific interest.
