The programme is conducted through a series of interactive seminars and workshops; full attention is paid to the requirements of the National Curriculum, the Secondary National Strategy, the Framework for the teaching of English and of the various examination specifications; the course looks to the potential for creative and critical experience revealed by such formal requirements, rather than seeing these as constraints; students are encouraged to become highly proficient in all aspects of secondary English and to develop specialist expertise in areas such as drama, media, language and information communication technology; every trainee is closely supervised and supported throughout the programme by an English Method Tutor, and by a subject mentor in each of the trainee's placement schools; leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), subject to satisfactory performance in skills tests.
