This course offers students an opportunity to graduate with a degree specifically related to digital forensics; it has been designed to prepare students to work professionally in a number of disciplines; graduates are conversant with technical, legal, ethical and social aspects of the civil and criminal activities used in the abuse of digital technology; this programme draws on 2 key areas of academic study: criminology and computing; the legal/professional strand establishes the context in which the digital forensics specialist performs; topics studied include: ethics and its relation to the law and computing; computer law; legal processes; digital evidence; the regulatory framework of digital investigation; business continuity planning; cybercrime; countering fraud and corruption; the technical strand, which occupies around 1/2 of the programme each semester, develops understanding of digital environments; from this understanding flows the ability to work with computers, either avoiding being the target of cybercrime or handling potential evidence after an incident.
