The programme is an interdisciplinary degree designed to study Islam and Muslim societies in their cultural, social, economic, political and religious dimensions; it is intended to offer new perspectives on Muslim societies in all their complex structures and institutions; students see these societies as evolving entities endowed with their own internal mode of evolution and response to external challenges; being interdisciplinary and internationally focused, the programme seeks to explore and express a variety of approaches and methodologies, encouraging thereby students to develop and articulate their own theoretical and practical skills; the study of Muslim societies is complemented by a thorough study of Islamic texts and the scholarly/intellectual tradition of Islam.
