The course provides graduates with a thorough knowledge of actual modern radio systems and of the fundamental principles and design constraints embodied in those systems, as well as a solid appreciation of the benefits of such systems to the logistics industry; in line with the Logistics Institute's overall philosophy, students on this programme study the foundations of logistics and supply chain management alongside management-oriented students, enhancing their experience through this perspective; the course provides an understanding of the requirements for appropriate support technology in business; a deep understanding of the applications of radio communications and item attendant data in logistics and management; an essential knowledge of electromagnetic propagation through indoor and outdoor environments, the operating principles of a range of radio frequency identification (RIFD) and automatic identification and data capture (AIDC) systems, the design, operation and verification of RF electronics and the principles of modulation and coding; practical experience in the design and construction of RF electronics; practical skills in the use of industry standard development and verification hardware and software; the skills and confidence to develop new RFID/AIDC systems from concept to prototype; research methods, with an emphasis on their application in the field of RFID systems engineering; experience of undertaking a significant and relevant research project; and an ideal pathway for progression from a Bachelor's degree to a PhD.
