The successful completion of this degree leads to recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status; the programme includes school experience and education studies; an average of 8 weeks each year are spent on a placement in school; the education studies courses examine aspects of children’s learning and principles of teaching in areas such as planning, assessment and classroom management; students can select 1 of 2 age phases: either 3–7 or 5–11; all students study core curriculum subjects: mathematics, English and science as well as the foundation curriculum and religious education; the subject study course allows students to study an area of particular interest and develop an area of professional expertise in 1 area of the National Curriculum; in the 3rd year students have the opportunity to select an area of professional development from a number of options.

Location

The university’s campuses in south east London and Kent all offer modern, hi-tech facilities within magnificent and historic settings. The largest campus is centred on the Old Royal Naval College in Royal Greenwich, at the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the banks of the River Thames and next to Greenwich Royal Park. The Avery Hill Campus in Eltham enjoys a parkland setting, and the Medway Campus features redbrick Edwardian buildings in Chatham Maritime, Kent. All sites are served by excellent rail and bus links, and an inter-campus bus service.
