University of Cumbria, MA, Community Arts
Theoretical dimension begins with definitions of community and evaluation of past practitioners; communities can be defined by a fixed site or building (a cinema, theatre, library, museum, gallery, hospital, prison or school) or they can be non-fixed, even virtual (a community group, network or online community); students examine the tradition of community arts practice and expand their critical and practical abilities to work as a creative professional; the role of the public arts sector in policy development and delivery is examined and students learn skills such as fund-raising, project management and securing support.
