This course is designed to prepare refugee doctors trained overseas for work in the NHS, ensuring that they are able to practice in a manner which is safe, evidence-based, and culturally appropriate within the context of the UK; students refresh and update their knowledge of the major specialties in medicine, critically appraise the ethics and cultural values prevalent in the UK healthcare system, and learn the practicalities of working in the NHS, through clinical attachments and formal teaching sessions; the course does not replace the need for overseas trained doctors to sit the Professional Linguistic Assessment Board (PLAB) exam and to obtain registration to practice through the United Kingdom General Medical Council (GMC), but helps students to work towards PLAB in a structured manner.
