This programme is appropriate for first level registered nurses on parts 1, 3, 5 and 8 of the professional register who wish to gain entry to parts 12, 13 and 15 of the register; the course is designed to build upon students existing first level nursing skills and knowledge; the course consists of periods of classroom study interspersed with periods of practical experience: classroom study comprises 21 hours per week and practice experience comprises 37.5 hours per week; the modules studied during the branch programme focus upon the development of nursing practice, incorporating nursing theory, skills development and professional nursing knowledge; students are expected to adapt existing skills associated with leadership, management and education to the new area of practice.
