The programme offers you a unique chance to analyse and practice journalism. You learn the basics of becoming a multi-media journalist, to prepare for an industry that requires new entrants to be multi-skilled. You don’t need technical skills already to study Journalism at Roehampton, but you should be interested in the news and passionate about the unfolding world of digital journalism.
Working primarily in our newsroom, you will discover how to write a range of different news stories, design websites on the single honours, and produce radio and video journalism. You will also have the opportunity to explore magazine and feature writing, sports and investigative journalism alongside experienced journalists – some who have worked for the BBC, the Guardian and the Financial Times, and academics who are experts in their specialism. And you will do this in London, one of the world's great capitals and a global creative hub.
You will have the opportunity to do work experience in the media industry – past students worked at the BBC, Sky, MTV, the Independent, the Daily Express, OK! and Vogue:
Some call it a “mission”, others have said it’s “the best job in the world”. Whatever your view journalism is part of everyday life producing information, opinion and entertainment for the public via different platforms, from the morning newspaper column to blink-and-you-miss-it half-line stories on the social networks. This course gives students the opportunity to discover the fast-paced journalism industry. You will develop the skills and experience ready for a career in a thrilling multimedia environment.
