Successful completion of this course confers Qualified teacher Status (QTS); this course is designed to give students with good information technology skills (normally forming a significant part of their 1st degree) the ability to teach information communication technology (ICT) across the 7-14 age range and, in the longer term, progress their career by giving them the subject knowledge to become an ICT co-ordinator in school; students spend 3 blocks of time in schools: 1 in a primary or middle school at key stage 2; 1 in a secondary or middle school at key stage 3; and 1 in a sector of their choice; students are also taught about the use of ICT across the curriculum, and how ICT can be integrated into other subject areas; ICT is a shortage subject, particularly at secondary level.
