Newcastle University, BSc (Hons), Accounting and Statistics
Accounting Stage 1: Students spend half of their time studying accounting and finance subjects: foundations of accounting, information technology and business finance. Stages 2 and 3: Half the modules are taken from the discipline of accounting and finance; students choose some modules in the core areas of financial reporting, management accounting, or finance, as well as having the scope for some optional modules in other areas of accounting or finance. Statistics Stage 1: the study of mathematical methods, probability and statistics, and either modelling and differential equations or number systems and calculus. Stage 2: modules cover probability, statistics and statistical methods; mathematics modules or further statistics modules in areas such as market research, quality management and operational research can also be chosen. Stage 3: there is a wide choice of subjects including techniques of regression, statistical modelling and biostatistics; a number of modules link statistics with the other joint Honours in science subjects, such as financial modelling, time series and forecasting, and queuing systems.
