The context for continued study is personal enterprise and professional competence within which the student develops a single body of work that is largely self-initiated; studio remains the primary teaching method; under the general heading, design proposition, students undertake an elective study where research and theory is developed as a personal design thesis applied at a range of scales and contexts; this is intended to broaden students' perspectives of landscape architecture within a professional framework involving conceptual design, site strategies, natural and artificial systems and technologies; individual practice is informed by a series of professional and supporting studies including: the legal and environmental frameworks relevant to UK practice; planning and management; and contracts and professional ethics; part of the course is undertaken as a work placement with local practices; experience is often shared with exchange students from Europe and the USA; the programme is accredited by the Landscape Institute for entry to the Chartered Profession as an Associate Member (Design) and is recognised within the EU by the European Foundation for Landscape Architecture (EFLA).
