This is a combined Honours course which allows the student to study 2 subjects at degree level; the coaching studies programme offers the student a chance to study a range of units that underpin the dynamic areas encompassed by coaching and sport development; each unit marries the theoretical with a practical understanding of issues so that the student can relate their learning to experiences and situations commonplace in this exciting area of study; the 3rd year may require the student to negotiate industry related work at home or abroad, whilst students are encouraged from day 1 to volunteer or gain part-time jobs in coaching and/ or sports development, eg within schools, sports clubs, local authorities and summer camps; the sport course enables the student to gain knowledge and understanding of the fundamental processes which underline human movement performance, and an understanding of ways in which this knowledge can be applied to sport and exercise; the subject core involves a significant proportion of practical work in the laboratory and in the sporting environment; such activity provides relevance to the student’s work and encourages them to develop skills of enquiry, analysis, management and creativity, as well as inter-personal skills; this programme is run at the Cheshire campus.
