Manchester Metropolitan University, BA (Hons), Childhood Studies
Year 1: Students follow 6 compulsory units, covering the age range from birth to 18 years. Year 2: options are available to allow students to focus either on children from birth to 8 years leading to the award of BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies; or on children aged 8 to 18 years; each unit is in turn underpinned by a children’s rights perspective; and focuses on the perceived needs; capacities; rights and entitlements of children, and how these can be promoted and enhanced; the emphasis is on linking theoretical perspectives to practice in the areas of education; welfare; care; health; and the law; visits are made to a range of childhood settings and there is the opportunity of a placement; there is also the opportunity to achieve qualified practitioner status, for those students who have not achieved this prior to starting the course; such students then graduate with the BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies (with Practitioner Options).
