Imperial's main campus is located in the South Kensington area of central London. It is situated in an area of South Kensington known as Albertopolis which has a high concentration of cultural and academic institutions, including the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Royal College of Music, the Royal College of Art, the Royal Geographical Society and the Royal Albert Hall. Imperial has two other major campuses – at Silwood Park (near Ascot in Berkshire) and at Wye (near Ashford in Kent). The Wye campus, some of it dating back to the 15th century, is currently vacant and available for sale or rent. The Imperial College NHS Trust has multiple hospitals throughout Greater London and various lectures for medical students are conducted within these hospitals, including St. Mary's Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital, Northwick Park Hospital & St. Mark's Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital.
Student Oyster photocards can be bought for use within London on trains, underground, buses and the London Docklands Light Railway. If you travel regularly on public transport it will be cheaper to buy a travelcard rather than single tickets. Transport for London (TFL) offers a student travelcard which gives a 30% discount to full-time students over the age of 18. Travel costs are dependent upon the zone you will be travelling from. A travelcard for Zones 1-6 will be required to travel from Zone 6. Travel costs are cheaper if you are travelling from Zones 1,2,3,4 and 5; further details can be found on the Transport for London website.
