This course grooms you for an active and dynamic career as a researcher in molecular life sciences.
The 1st year offers an orientation to the life sciences: you learn about fundamental theories and lab techniques. You apply your new knowledge in small group projects dealing with problems from the field of life sciences. These projects help you to develop your problem-solving and communication skills. They also give you insight into current issues that are relevant to professional practice.
Over the next three years, as you broaden your knowledge and sharpen your analytical skills, you will learn with increasing independence. You will participate in projects with an increasing level of complexity. You also complete a work placement, an elective module and an independent graduation assignment. The assignment involves planning and conducting your own experiments. You then present your results in a professional manner, for example, in a final report to your project advisers or in a presentation.
The broad education programme opens doors of diverse career opportunities. Graduates of the Masters course in Molecular Life Sciences can work at companies active in biotechnology, such as pharmaceutical companies, companies dealing with personal health care, diagnostic companies and the food and feed industry. These can be small and medium-sized enterprises as well as multinationals. HAN graduates also work at research institutions in universities, hospitals and private research institutes.You could be involved in researching diseases, designing new drugs, undertaking quality assurance, or working as a product or marketing specialist.
HAN University of Applied Sciences has two campuses, located in Arnhem and Nijmegen.
Nijmegen is situated on the banks of the river Waal, in the east of The Netherlands, near to the German border, and is the oldest city in Holland - recently celebrating its 2,000th anniversary.
Arnhem, the capital of the province of Gelderland, is only 15km from Nijmegen and lies partially in the hills at the edge of National Park De Veluwe, a striking area of woods and heath. Arnhem is a ‘green’ city, where people take pleasure in living, working and recreation.
