Course provides a broad introduction to the subject, leading on to an understanding of current developments in research and the latest methodologies; programme is highly practical and hands-on, providing training for giving expert witness testimonies in a courtroom situation and elsewhere; part 1 consists of a 2-week period of introductory studies followed by academic instruction in modular form; most modules are of 5 days' duration, interspersed with weeks devoted to private study and visits to forensic science establishments; students take 9 compulsory modules covering the main disciplines, and 2 electives based upon their particular background, future requirements or interests; in part 2 of the programme, students undertake a research project; the teaching staff provide a list of prospective projects each year; alternatively, with the agreement of the teaching staff/supervisor, students can undertake appropriate research of their own choosing.
